subtitle.im

subtitle.im is a Chrome extension that automatically turns on available YouTube captions. When the video already has burned-in subtitles, it handles duplicate captions according to your preferences. Restore captions whenever you need them.

Frame sampling and OCR run locally in your browser without uploading video frames or subtitle text. When burned-in subtitles and YouTube captions use different languages, choose to close the captions automatically, be asked first, or keep them. Detection acts only with supported languages and sufficient evidence.

Try 10 successfully handled videos for free with no sign-up. Pro adds continued automatic handling, channel and individual-video rules, and remembering confirmed caption closures. Annual Pro is $17.99/year; lifetime access is $29.99 once.

The extension manages existing YouTube captions. It does not generate, translate, or download subtitles or remove text embedded in the video.
